If you’ve ever stood staring at your BIAB™ collection wondering whether to reach for a Hard or Soft version, you’re not alone. While both formulas are part of the BIAB™ family, they serve very different purposes. In this blog, we’re diving into the differences between Hard BIAB™ and Soft BIAB™, the science behind them and how to decide which is right for your client.  

Hard BIAB™ is a stronger, more rigid formula with enhanced durability and structure. It’s more cross-linked on a molecular level, giving it a firmer, longer-lasting finish that’s ideal for building structure and adding length. It requires a file-off removal (usually with an e-file if you are e-file trained) and must be applied over a layer of Rubber Base, as it doesn’t have the same bonding agents built in.  Our Hard BIAB™ shades are Clear, White & Milky BIAB™.  

The remaining BIAB™ shades in our range are considered Soft BIAB™. By contrast, this is a more flexible, soak-off formula. It contains Rubber Base within the formula, meaning you don’t need to apply a separate base coat. This version is easier to remove, using traditional soak-off methods, and is perfect for overlays on short to mid-length natural nails.  

Both formulas are part of TGB’s BIAB™ family, but they perform differently depending on your client’s needs and the type of service being carried out.

• Techs who prefer the ease of soak-off removal.                

The science behind it: Soft BIAB™ is classed as a soft gel, meaning it contains fewer cross-links in its polymer chains, which allows it to remain slightly flexible. This softer structure makes it more compatible with the natural movement of shorter / mid-length nails, helping prevent chipping or lifting. The Rubber Base technology is built into the formula, allowing it to bond directly to the natural nail without an additional base layer.  

Hard BIAB™: Think of this as the product for your clients who are heavy with their hands, want longer nails, or are working towards growing their natural nails out with a bit more security. It’s strong, it can be sculpted and is built to last.  

Soft BIAB™: Soft BIAB™ is a go-to for clients who want added strength without sacrificing a natural look. Ideal for short to mid-length nails, it offers the durability of a soft gel with a flexible, lightweight feel. With a variety of natural-looking shades to choose from, it’s perfect for those transitioning from gel polish or after a clean, polished finish that lasts.  

Offering both formulas allows you to customise treatments and recommend the perfect BIAB™ to suit each client’s lifestyle, nail health and maintenance schedule. It also ensures that you can safely support nail growth goals without overbuilding or under-supporting the natural nail.
